Senator Ian Macdonald and I announced the completion of two overtaking lanes on the Bruce Highway between Cardwell and El Arish, making the road safer for locals, visitors and the transport industry.

Tenders have been called for another overtaking lane project on the Bruce Highway between Dallachy Creek and Yellow Waterholes, between Cardwell and Tully.

When I became the Member for Hinchinbrook, motorists had very few opportunities to safely overtake between Innisfail and Townsville and that was a great frustration for local residents, visitors to the region and the transport industry.

I have really concentrated on this issue, working with Main Roads officers in Townsville and Cairns over a number of years to push the importance of additional overtaking lanes and I’m pleased that we have made some real progress.
