Silt Limits Access to Clump Point Boat Ramp
Categories: Electorate
Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, has made urgent representations to the Department of Transport and Main Roads about the build-up of silt adjacent to the rock wall at the Clump Point boat ramp at Mission Beach.
Mr Cripps said he had only recently been made aware of the problem, which had become bad enough to effectively reduce access to the Clump Point boat ramp to one lane, especially at low tide.
“This isn’t good enough for such a popular boat ramp not to have regular and necessary maintenance undertaken by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and I’ve contacted them to say so” said Mr Cripps.
“Everyone’s aware that some important and welcome upgrades are going to occur at the Clump Point boat ramp in the near future, but that’s no reason to delay any regular or necessary maintenance work” he said.
Mr Cripps said recreational and commercial vessels were still using the facility every day and it needed to maintain its current full capacity as a two lane boat ramp to accommodate locals and visitors to the area.
